Gorse is a dark progressive sludge metal band from Brighton in England, that also incorporates pyschedelia, jazz/rock fusion and punk into its sound. The band describes themselves thus: "Ultimately we are heavy and progressive heavy rock centered around riffs and grooves, progressions, fusion, experimentation and improvisation and usually a concept behind each song/group of songs/album." Formed in 2008, the band grew out of guitarist and vocalist James Parker’s band Tyre, formed in 2006. Joined by bass player Ollie Thomas and drummer Charlie in 2008, the band assumed its current monicker. After releasing the Slumber of Artemis EP in 2008 and the debut 2009 full-length Bovine Soul, Charlie left the band to be replaced by ex-From Beneath It Devours drummer Jennie Howell.
