Vehementer Nos is a French progressive black metal project that takes its name from the famous Papal encyclical promulgated by Pope Pius X from 1906. The band was formed in 2000 but it would take another five years before they would start writing what would be their debut album. The process began in July 2005, and after various hardships their self-titled album was finally released on Osmose Productions in early 2007. The band consists of two members under pseudonyms A.M. (previously known as Gwenwhyvard), on percussions and vocals, and Engwar on vocals, guitars, bass, piano. The duo has previously been members of the now defunct black metal act Sombre Insight. Vehementer Nos tends to focus on writing longer compositions, with three out of the five tracks on their debut album reaching beyond the 9 minute mark. The music comprises of a mix of many different styles and genres that wouldn't exactly be considered common on a black metal album.
